How Much Money Au Pairs Earn
Helping families up to 25 hours a week, au pairs must receive weekly pocket money of around £60 in the UK and around €50 to €75 in Europe. Amounts vary per country and per hours worked.
Good au pairs are sought after, so it is worth being generous to them. Also you should consider making a contribution towards the cost of their language classes or towards their fare to the UK.
Aupairs must have two days completely free from daytime work, usually the weekends. However if the host mother or father have weekend jobs, it is possible for the au pair's day off to be given during the week, subject to prior agreement.
In addition to their usual working hours, au pairs can babysit up to two nights per week at no further cost to the family. Families should give few days advance warning. However families should try to avoid asking the au pair to babysit every weekend, as this may affect aupair's weekend social life and activities among other au pairs in a negative way, making the aupair feel unhappy.
